How To Prepare Momos At Home

The craze for Momos have been ever increasing all this while. However, the hygiene level in the locally available momos is just not up to the mark.  Once you know the exact momo recipe, preparing them at home will never trouble you. Momos are available in vegetarian and nonvegetarian varieties. Also, some of them have gravy while others are simply dry. It is up to you how you choose to have your momos for taking the taste buds. Here we have shared the basic momo recipe that you can always prepare and alter.


Ingredients we need to prepare vegetable momos –

  • salt
  • 2 cups of maida or white flour
  • 1 cup grated carrot, cabbage, finely chopped onion
  • Soya sauce
  • Oil
  • ginger garlic paste
  • One tablespoon baking powder


 Step-by-step guide to prepare momos recipe at home –

  • Step 1 – prepare a dough using some baking soda, white flour, salt and water.
  • Step 2 – heat some oil in a deep vessel and add ginger garlic paste along with onions . cook them until they turn golden brown.
  • Step 3 – eventually toss grated vegetables like carrot, capsicum and cabbage and let them cook a bit but let them remain crunchy.
  • Step 4 – put some black pepper, soya sauce, vinegar and salt after you turn off the heat and take out vegetables from the pan.
  • Step 5 – prepare a flat base of 5 inches using the wheat flour dough.
  • Step 6 – place of the sauted filling in between the the flat base made out of Maida.
  • Step 7 – now prepare a potli type of a structure by closing the the flat base and twist it in order to seal the filling.
  • Step 8 – steam the Momo for around 10 minutes and serve with Chili sauce soya sauce.

How to prepare gravy for Momos ?

Gone are the days when momos was simply served with some spicy chutney and that used to put an end to the story. Now a days, you will find the gravy version of momos that have a combination of heated cornstarch in 1 tablespoon of water along with 3 tbsp of soya sauce , one tablespoon of ginger garlic paste, one tablespoon of chilli paste along with all the sauted Chinese vegetables and salt. You can submerge the momos into that easy-peasy mixture and convert the normal steamed momos into gravy momos right away. experimenting with food is the best thing one can do to keep happy.
