How To Prepare Instant Arhar Dal Khichdi

Ingredients required to prepare Khichdi at home

  • Half cup arhar dal
  • Half cup rice
  • 1 clove
  • Turmeric powder
  • pinch of asafetida
  • 2 tablespoon of ghee
  • Salt to taste


You can prepare Khichdi within 30 minutes and have it right away after releasing pressure from the cooker. The mushy structure of khichdi tastes all the better when poured with spoonful of ghee.

  • Soak rice and dal in water for sometime and drain them completely before preparing. Do not soak them for less than 30 min


Yummy Khichdi recipe –

  • Step 1 – take a pressure cooker and put it on a medium flame.
  • Step 2 – put ghee followed by heeng, cumin seeds, clove and tej patta.
  • Step 3– put dal and rice along with 4 cup of water.
  • Step 4– add turmeric powder and salt in the cooker before closing the lid.
  • Step 5 – cook in medium flame and turn off after three whistles.


Pro tip-

  • Make sure that you clean the rice and dal very well before cooking them.
  • If you do not have 30 minutes for soaking, boil some water and place the ingredients in it for 10 minutes.
  • Add a little bit of ghee for a Better taste
  • Use minimal spices to maintain the natural taste of khichdi.
  • You can add ginger garlic paste in cooker if you want.
  • Do not open the pressure cooker until and unless it releases pressure. This will help the ingredients to cook better and taste well.
